Abstract

The rapid development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) has fundamentally disrupted the landscape of religious communication. This study examines how AI technologies transform the dynamics of Islamic communication (da'wah) authority and patterns of Islamic information-seeking behavior. Utilizing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology based on the PRISMA protocol, this paper analyzes 42 international peer-reviewed studies indexed in Scopus (Q1/Q2). The findings reveal three core insights: (1) A noticeable shift from institutional authority (scholars and traditional Islamic institutions) toward algorithmic epistemic authority, where automated models are perceived as neutral and swift knowledge mediators; (2) A behavioral transition in information-seeking from document-based retrieval to conversational interactive dialogue, simplifying complex legal deduction (istinbāṭ) into instantaneous linguistic probabilities; and (3) The emergence of epistemic harm and algorithmic hallucination, which necessitates the integration of Islamic ethical frameworks (Maqāṣid al-Sharī‘ah) alongside a human-in-the-loop governance model. The study concludes that AI cannot substitute the epistemological depth of Islamic scholars (‘ulamā’), but should instead function as a supporting technology subject to critical verification (tabayyun).
