Peer Review Policy & Process

Alamtara: Jurnal Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam (Alamtara), published by Universitas Tarbiyatut Tholabah, is committed to maintaining high standards of scholarly publishing through a rigorous and transparent peer-review process. All submitted manuscripts undergo rigorous evaluation to ensure scientific validity, original contribution, and relevance to the field of Islamic communication and broadcasting.

Type of Peer Review

Alamtara employs a Double-Blind Peer Review model. In this process, the identity of both the authors and the reviewers is kept strictly anonymous to prevent bias and ensure an objective, fair evaluation.

Step-by-Step Review Workflow

  1. Initial Editorial Screening: The Managing Editor checks the manuscript for scope alignment, structural compliance with author guidelines, Turnitin plagiarism similarity (max 25%), and AI detection threshold (max 20%). Submissions failing this stage will be desk-rejected.
  2. Assignment to Reviewers: Manuscripts passing initial screening are assigned to at least two independent peer reviewers with domain expertise in Islamic communication, media studies, or related social sciences.
  3. Reviewer Evaluation: Reviewers assess the paper based on originality, methodological rigor, clarity of arguments, proper citation of sources, and ethical compliance.
  4. Editorial Decision: Based on the peer reviewers' recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following decisions:
    • Accept Submission: The manuscript is accepted as is for production.
    • Revisions Required: Minor or major revisions are requested from the authors.
    • Resubmit for Review: Substantial revisions are required, and the revised version will undergo a second round of review.
    • Decline Submission: The manuscript is rejected due to fatal flaws, lack of novelty, or irrelevance.
  5. Author Revision & Final Approval: Authors must address all comments from reviewers within the specified deadline. The revised manuscript is verified by the editor before sending it to copyediting and layout.

Review Timeline

The average duration for the review process at Alamtara is as follows:

  • First Response/Desk Screening: 1–2 weeks after submission.
  • Peer Review Duration: 3–6 weeks.
  • Final Decision to Publication: 2–4 weeks post-revision.

Reviewer Responsibilities & Conflict of Interest

Reviewers are expected to deliver prompt, objective, and constructive feedback while treating all manuscripts as strictly confidential documents. If a reviewer identifies a conflict of interest (financial, institutional, or collaborative), they must immediately notify the Editor and decline the review request.
