In alignment with our updated focus and scope (effective from Vol. 13 No. 2, 2026), Madinah: Jurnal Studi Islam (Madinah: JSI) requires all submissions to adopt a community-based approach. Regardless of the methodology used, every manuscript must directly engage with, reflect upon, or provide distinct insights into the socio-cultural, economic, educational, legal, or religious realities of coastal, urban, and inland Muslim communities.
The journal welcomes submissions under the following three categories:
  1. Original Empirical Research Articles (Community-Based Fieldwork)
    • Description: Articles that investigate contemporary Islamic education, Islamic law, Islamic economics, and Islamic culture through direct fieldwork, case studies, or community-based inquiry. These papers must analyze primary data gathered from live interactions within specific Muslim communities.
    • Length: 4,000 – 8,000 words (including references).
  2. Theoretical and Conceptual Papers (Community-Oriented Textual Analysis)
    • Description: Articles focusing on Qur'anic studies, Hadith studies, Islamic history, and Islamic thought using theoretical or literature-based approaches. While focusing on textual analysis and classical scholarship, these papers must contextualize their conceptual reflections to address the lived realities, intellectual expressions, or challenges faced by diverse Muslim communities.
    • Length: 4,000 – 7,500 words (including references).
  3. Critical Review Articles (Community-Focused Syntheses)
    • Description: Submissions that integrate both theoretical and practical dimensions by reviewing existing literature, policies, or conceptual frameworks in Islamic thought and practice. These reviews must evaluate how these frameworks impact or operate within the dynamics of coastal, urban, or inland Muslim communities, provided the methodological coherence is clearly articulated.
    • Length: 5,000 – 9,000 words (including references).
